How to decorate a house with the help of ikebana

We all love to decorate our homes, make them cozy and bring individuality to every room and corner. And what, if not the flowers, helps us in the process?! However, freshly cut flowers have one unfortunate feature – no matter how hard we try, they still fade, and one day they have to be reluctantly thrown away. But did you know that the flowers dried in a vase are not always so unsuitable for further use?

One of the ways to dry plants is a technique that is subsequently used to create ikebana and different collages, in fact – to arrange dry bouquets and various decorations. Ikebana is an old traditional Japanese art, which is used to make up compositions and bouquets of fresh or dried flowers to adorn and decorate the interior.

In such cases it is not suitable to dry plants by pressing. Voluminous bouquets call for big flowers, some of which literally dry “on their own” even while standing in a vase and acquire the desired shape and maintain color, and some require one’s time and effort.

If you do not pursue the goal to achieve professional heights in drying plants while preserving their original appearance, you can resort to one of the easiest and surest ways to achieve the result: turn over your rose or reed with a stem upwards, hang it in this way in a dry, dark place for a few days, and only then varnish (which, by the way, is not necessary in case of flowers).

It is even possible to use hair spray that you can find among your hair care products. Then again! There are no limits to your imagination. You can use such dry plants to decorate the interior, as well as stand-alone items, and voluminous paintings, collages, bouquets, compositions… For where there’s a will, there’s a way!..

And lastly, I want to note that working with flora, both in dry and fresh form, is definitely a creative process, but it’s a process that imbues you from your fingertips to your heart. Create, learn new techniques, love nature, and we’ll always offer you a good advice and a huge selection of fresh plants!
